The Accounting Academy has achieved the prestigious AAT Approved Centre status.
The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is well known for its professional approach to quality
and each centre has to go through stringent checks on standards and external verification.
This process is now complete and the Academy is able to display the following accreditation:
Commenting on this achievement Chief Executive of the AAT, Jane Scott Paul says
“ The AAT is delighted to approve the Accounting Academy Partnership as a new AAT
training provider. It provides young people with a unique opportunity to qualify with
AAT through an innovative intensive Apprenticeship programme.
The programme enhances opportunities for young people seeking a high-quality
vocational career development pathway.”
North Hertfordshire Accounting Academy complete level 2 Accounting Apprenticeship and move on to level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.
The Level 2 AAT Certificate usually takes 1 year part-time to complete and our first Academy group have completed in the planned 13 weeks. This is achieved by short blocks of study focusing on one aspect of the AAT qualification at a time, not spread out and mixed as can be the case with part-time provision. With a combination of 3 days study and 2 days employment learning is more intense and focused.
Using the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification apprentices are taught the skills that are directly relevant to their employers, from understanding the sales cycle through to cash flow, profit & loss and more, utilising computerised accounts and advanced spreadsheet techniques.
Commenting on the approach apprentice Jenny Galton says “I really like the way this is done. We study one subject at a time, say Basic Costing and then we take an exam at the end of a 3 or 4 week block. There is no waiting for June exam sittings and we know our results within a few days. I know where I am and I know what I have to do. I then work 2 days a week at an Accounting Practice and everything makes sense. It’s hard work but it’s worth it!”
Local children benefit from 3aaa sponsorship
3A’s are delighted to support local fund raising events. This year 3A’s have sponsored Paul Willerton, Dominic Merrison and Martin Sheppard £1,000 in their biggest challenge yet on behalf of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
In 2008 the team set the challenge of visiting all 92 Football League clubs to raise money for the St Vincent de Paul Society Children’s Camps. On the 18th March the team set off to complete the 92 by visiting the clubs in League One, along with any teams missed in previous years due to promotion and relegation. In previous years the team have visited the Premier League, Championship and League 2 clubs with an overwhelming response, raising over £1,000 each year.
This year saw Paul, Dominic and Martin visiting 33 clubs and travelling over 1,600 miles, in just four days, by driving for more than 10 hours each day in a car donated to the event by Bristol Street Motors.
The St Vincent de Paul Society is an international charity working to support those in need, and each summer they provide holidays for underprivileged children at 7 designated campsites across England. During these holidays, the children enjoy a variety of activities utilising the local facilities and beaches, fairs and theme parks where they are available, as well as sports, bowling, swimming, talent shows and discos. These camps are entirely staffed by adult volunteers, as is the upkeep of the purpose-built sites that the charity own. Attendance costs for the children are kept to a minimum as the volunteer helpers spend time fund-raising throughout the year and keep the camps debt-free.
In 2010 the SVP ran 7 camps across England, benefiting a total of 1452 children, supported by 591 voluntary staff. For the East Midlands, the SVP take children from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire to a purpose built facility in Mablethorpe, in 2010 this was attended by 78 boys, 81 girls and 42 deaf children, supported by 104 voluntary staff.
All funds raised from the challenge this year will be used to enhance the experience of children at the Mablethorpe site.
Paul Willerton commented “On behalf of my fellow fundraisers Dom Merrison and Martin Sheppard, our Camp President Lawrence McGhee, and everyone involved with the SVP childrens camps at Mablethorpe, I would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Peter, Di, Lee and everyone at 3AAAs for their huge contribution and involvement in this year's fundraising effort. 3AAAs backing has helped us to raise over £2200 this year, and being able to use the Citroen that you arranged gave us the assurance of reliability as well as making sure that we were comfortable for the entire 1703 miles!
A good proportion of the children that attend the camps are not able to fund the £60 fee themselves, and so are sponsored by SVP Conferences from across the diocese. As you can appreciate, these are the children most in need of the respite and care that we provide, and your donation will be earmarked for this purpose, allowing 16 children a holiday that they would not otherwise be able to have.
Thank you again for your generous donation and valued involvement.”
