MAJORITY OF UNI GRADS IN ‘NON-GRADUATE JOBS’ WITH APPRENTICESHIPS ON THE UP
Recent findings, as reported by the CIPD, show that almost 60% of university graduates are working in non-graduate roles after completing their degrees.
With such a huge number of graduates leaving university with little to no work experience, all achieving similar if not exactly the same grades, employers are finding it increasingly difficult to find applicants with the appropriate skills set to work within their particular industry.
The average graduate, who will have racked up a whopping £50,000 worth of debt over the course of their studies, will find themselves working in a job that does not require a university degree and will be earning £14,734 starting salary in their first job. Numbers such as these are a clear representation of the demise in value of a university degree.
Apprenticeships on the other hand, are increasing in value day after day, with the CIPD advising young people to consider an Apprenticeship as a viable option after leaving school. Apprenticeship vacancies are up 28%, as more and more employers are beginning to realise the value an Apprentice can bring to their business. Those who complete an Apprenticeship on average have a starting salary of £18,463. With an Apprenticeship qualification being as considered as equal to a degree qualification, and with the added experience the Apprentice would be gaining at the same time, an Apprentice will be equipped with more skills and more experience than a graduate and will earn more as a result. With work experience becoming more valuable than grades on a certificate, the need for Apprentices is only going to rise.
Earlier this year, the government vowed to support 3,000,000 Apprenticeships by 2020, and this support has created huge noise in the world of Apprenticeships. 3aaa will be at the forefront of this, bringing outstanding Apprenticeship opportunities to young people across the country day after day.
