On Saturday 26th September, we attended the Derbyshire County Cricket Club Players Awards evening to celebrate the success of the club and their impressive 2015 season.
3aaa sponsored the event and the NatWest T20 Blast Player of the Year, presented by Mark Edworthy was won by Wes Durston. This past season has been a continuation of our strong partnership with the club which started in March 2014 with the agreement of the 3aaa County Ground’s naming rights.
Billy Godleman was the main winner of the evening, claiming 2 awards – Most Improved Player Award and the Player of the Year Prize. The 26 year old batsman’s thank you speech was gracious, humbling, generous and clearly demonstrated what a worthy winner and fine young man he is – although I am sure the 1,412 first class runs including four centuries probably had much to do with it!
At 3aaa, we understand the benefits that the Power of Sport has in helping to inspire young people and also helping to bring businesses together. This year has also been the International Year of Sport providing a unique opportunity to focus our attention on the importance of sport in society and on how sport can be used as a tool to combat challenges and play a vital role at all levels of society – individual, community and national level.
Marc Edworthy, Power of Sport Lead at 3aaa said “It was a privilege to present Wes Durston with the NatWest T20 player of the year award. We have a strong relationship with the 3aaa county ground and are looking to encourage local businesses in the community to support the cricket club through the power of sport, wishing them every success in the 2016 season.”
Overall the evening was one of celebration and pride at the team, and individual achievements as well as celebrating our ongoing successful partnership with Derbyshire County Cricket Club. We look forward to working with them as we move onto next season.
