Women In Technology – A Case Study by Sophie Nicoll

3aaa Apprenticeships are helping women across England to build a Technology career through Apprenticeships.

Here is a case study by Sophie Nicoll, a Level 3 Technology Apprentice with 3aaa Apprenticeships’ Cambridge Academy

“Go for it!”

“I would definitely encourage more women to start a career in Technology. It is predominantly a male-orientated industry but if you’re passionate about Technology then you should definitely go for it.

At the moment, there is only two women in my class but the women aren’t any different to the men. We progress the same as men and I would really encourage more girls to ignore the stereotype and follow a career in Technology.

I would definitely say that what I learn in the 3aaa Apprenticeships academy is relevant to my day-to-day job, which is really helpful and makes me comfortable in working with Technology in the workplace.”

Watch Sophie’s Case Study Here:

I knew I wanted to pursue a career in Technology from studying it at school, both at GCSE level and A level and I always went home and tried to improve my own computer and devices.

The first time I came into the 3aaa Apprenticeships academy I was welcomed with arms open and it was a really nice experience. I was shown around the academy, introduced to the team and they have all  continued to be supportive throughout my Apprenticeship journey.

The second stage was a face to face interview, which made me more comfortable about the Apprenticeship and guided me on my career options.

A typical day for myself is to ensure that all the systems and servers within the academy are well maintained and functioning to optimum performance. I am first line support for all technical issues within the academy, be it changing a wire to completely re-configuring a PC.

The theoretical side of the Apprenticeship is hands-on and you’re not just looking at a text book all day. It’s also great that I am earning whilst I am learning and the team I work with are really friendly.

I am studying my Level 3 Apprenticeship at the moment and hope to progress onto a Level 4 Apprenticeship with 3aaa Apprenticeships. Once I complete my Level 4 qualification, I would really like to continue to build my Technology career. My long-term goal is to become an IT Director or Project Manager so that I can pass on the skills that I have learnt, whilst still developing my own.
