The 3aaa Country Ground to host 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup

The International Cricket Council today announced that The 3aaa County Ground, Derby will be one of the four main host venues at next summer’s ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, bringing together the top eight women’s national teams in the world in England from June 2017. It is the first global sporting event to be held in the city since the Men’s Cricket World Cup in 1999, at the same venue.

The Pentagon Roundabout saw the construction of a giant set of cricket stumps in order to support the bidding process, funded by over 60 local business as part of the #WereBackingTheBid campaign. Whilst acting as a lasting legacy, the Club hopes the global sporting event will also inspire young women across the county.

Chief Executive, Simon Storey said: “It’s tremendous news for the city and the wider county that Derby has been selected to host matches at next summer’s Women’s Cricket World Cup. A huge amount of work went into our bid which focused on why Derby is ideally placed to take its spot on the global sporting stage.

Derby City Council Leader, Ranjit Banwait, added: “Derby has a fantastic opportunity with the Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2017 to once again become a leading city in the public eye and to a global audience. It will also attract visitors, grow local business and create jobs for local people. It’s an exciting prospect for the City.

3aaa’s partnership with Derbyshire County Cricket Club saw us become the club’s first ever stadium naming rights partner, seeing the ground renamed as the 3aaa County Ground as well as becoming Derbyshire’s NatWest T20 Blast shirt sponsor.

Just like with all of our sporting partnerships, Derbyshire County Cricket Club recruited some of 3aaa’s very own Apprentices. One of which, Neil Bates has now progressed onto the Level 4 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship and travelled with their squad in last season’s pre-season tour of Abu Dhabi.

At 3aaa, we believe in forging strong relationships with local businesses in all of the regions where we work. We particularly focus on the ‘Power of Sport’ and the message of commitment and nurturing that sport delivers.

We firmly believe in the Power of Sport and the beneficial effects it has on inspiring young people, helping them to kick start the career of their dreams. Many young people use their sporting heroes and memories as a source of inspiration and influence as we help them take the first steps into training and real life industry.

We also use the Power of Sport to help engage with other local businesses throughout the regions in which we work. The Power of Sport is an important vehicle in bringing both people and businesses together in a number of different ways.
