In light of the request by Skills Minister, Nick Boles’, for public sector institutions to give more young people work opportunities, the public sector has vowed to take on more Apprentices than they ever have before.

With the private sector dominating when it comes to driving Apprenticeships forward, the public sector has been tasked with making 2.3% of its workers Apprentices. This commitment to making more Apprenticeship opportunities is yet another part of the government plan to reach 3 million Apprenticeships by the end of 2020. With Apprenticeships already being available in over 1500 job roles within the private sector, the time has come for the public sector to open its doors to the aspirational next generation of workers.

Skills minister Nick Boles had this to say, “Our Apprenticeships revolution has already given 2.4 million people the chance to learn the skills they need to get on in life, with businesses leading the way. Now it’s time for the public sector to step up and give youngsters the best start to working life.”

Although there are many opportunities within the public sector at present, there is still more that can be done, with numerous opportunities now being created in the police, NHS, among others.
