Peterborough’s female Apprentices buck the trend

As part of our continuing campaign to encourage, support and inspire more women into the world of IT, we are pleased to announce that our very own Peterborough Academy has just recently placed their very first two females into an IT workplace.

Rita Mendez is currently working at a fantastic company called Remark Group, as an Technical IT Apprentice and Helen Dandridge will be starting her exciting career as a Web Developer very soon for a local company called Speed Agency.

Many young females are reluctant to start an Apprenticeship as they perceive this route into employment as being extremely male orientated. One of our aims is to spread the word about how Apprenticeships can be the right choice for females wanting to kick start their career in IT, proving that the IT industry is not just for males.

Charlotte Wood, Academy Manager said “We are so pleased that we have just placed Rita and Helen, our first two females in an IT workplace. It really is important to us as an academy that we continue this push for more females in IT and we are all excited and positive moving forward that we can help to offer some amazing life-changing opportunities to the women and men of Peterborough”.

Rita Mendes commented “Ever since getting my first family computer at a young age, I’ve gained a growing interest in the revolutionary world of IT. I’m fascinated by the way IT impacts our everyday lives and how it’s constantly changing, which has made me want to be a part of it. Thanks to 3aaa, I am currently working for a great company called Remark, solving problems and developing IT solutions, to hopefully kick-start my IT career.”

As a company we are glad to learn that this mind-set is changing more and more every day and we will continue to push this nationwide campaign to once and for all prove that IT is #NotJustForBoys. We would just like to say a huge congratulations from all at 3aaa to Rita and Helen and good luck in your Apprenticeships!
