Derby North MP – “The Midlands Engine will play a key part to post-Brexit UK”

Amanda Solloway MP, Conservative MP for Derby North was in Westminster Hall this morning, discussing the importance of the ‘Midlands Engine’ for the countries post-Brexit economic growth, which is strongly supported in the modernised Industrial Strategy released by the Prime Minister yesterday.

She also highlighted the importance of skills and the support of training providers, in particular 3aaa Apprenticeships, in building initiatives to “link up employers, schools and Apprenticeship providers to tailor skills”.

In her speech, she explained how the Midlands economy has begun to grow faster than the UK average (outside of London), showing the strength of the region and how businesses like 3aaa Apprenticeships are playing a key part in the growth of the UK economy.

The ‘Midlands Engine’ is an initiative, backed by; the Government, Local Enterprise Partnerships, businesses and citizens, to position the Midlands at the core of UK economic growth.

Over a quarter of 3aaa Apprenticeships academies are situated within the ‘Midlands Engine’ region. We see this initiative as very powerful in revitalising the economy and developing high skilled, high paid workers.

Director of Strategy and Policy at 3aaa Apprenticeships, Stewart Segal commented on the Midlands Engine and the vital part training and staff development will play in the success of the initiative:

“We are proud to have our Headquarters in the heart of Derby and the Midlands Engine. Developing high skilled and well-rewarded employees is at the centre of our company philosophy so we are delighted to support Amanda Solloway in her drive for a successful Midlands Engine.  Our success is based on our national network of 40 Apprenticeship training centres with many in the East Midlands.  We deliver programmes that drive productivity in SMEs who are the engine of growth in the region. ”

The newest venture by the 3aaa Apprenticeships Group, the National Construction Academy also has its headquarters in Derby, which is also home to one of the first ever ‘Garden Villages’. These will be local-led developments that will provide over 48,000 homes across England and thousands of these will be situated within the ‘Midlands Engine’. The National Construction Academy will utilise the successful 3aaa approach but be tailored to the needs of the construction sector, its employers and employees.

As the Apprenticeship Levy is implemented this April and the Apprenticeship reforms take effect, 3aaa Apprenticeships have been working closely with employers to develop the new Apprenticeship Standards.

As a training provider, 3aaa Apprenticeships are leading this change and we have already implemented the changes in the digital sector 3aaa Apprenticeship in Technology. We have rolled out the new Apprenticeship Standards for numerous roles across a range of levels throughout all our training academies and delivery has already commenced.

If you would like to know more about the impending changes that are coming to the training sector and how the Apprenticeship industry is evolving, please contact your local 3aaa Apprenticeship academy and speak to your local Apprenticeship experts today.
