Chelmsford Academy Hosts Innovative ‘Commitment’ Open Day

DSC_0048(2)

The team at Chelmsford have taken a different approach when it comes to their academy run open days, by all getting involved and lending a hand with their 3aaa Commitment Day. The event, which took place today, was led by Chelmsford’s Academy manager, Tammy O’Connor with the help of her dedicated team.  The whole team played a part in the day’s events by providing helpful advice and teaching attendees valuable skills, while also improving their confidence.

The daylong open day event was filled with tasks and activities which were organised in order to better equip interested candidates with the skills needed to prosper in the world of work. Over 20 interested young people were inspired enough to attend, which is a tremendous turnout considering we are still in exam season.

The day consisted of interview practice, employability sessions as well as learning about the ins and outs of an Apprenticeship with 3aaa. Chelmsford’s Apprentice Intake, Luke Culling, could not have been happier with the successes of the day “What an amazing turnout! 23 interested young people, with more interested but unable to attend because of exams. A lot of the attendees are gaining the skills they need to progress towards the career of their dreams, and we could not be happier to help them”.

Through offering helpful advice and spreading the word about the outstanding opportunities that 3aaa offer, Chelmsford Academy have really inspired the young people in attendance to consider a future with 3aaa. By bringing exciting new opportunities to young people and employers across the country, 3aaa continues to be the Apprenticeship provider of choice. Well done Chelmsford, what an outstanding turnout!

3aaa delivers real Apprenticeships and bucks the trend

IMG_6625 (2)

At 3aaa we are focused on delivering life changing opportunities for young people.  We are currently finding more than 100 young people jobs on a weekly basis – and these are typically new jobs with employers who haven’t employed an Apprentice before.

We believe that Apprenticeships are about job creation and the delivery of outstanding teaching, learning and assessment.  Ofsted agreed with us when they inspected us last year and gave us a Grade 1 Outstanding in all areas of the work that we do.

So we were disappointed to see the report from the Institute of Education and the Nuffield Foundation this week that said that in many cases, government money for Apprenticeship is being used to support the training of adults who are over the age of 25 and people who are already in work where their employers really should pay for their training.

Thankfully through our 33 Academies we are finding small and medium sized employers on a daily basis who want to recruit new talent into their businesses and want to employ some of the amazing young people who are currently in our Applicant pool.  We currently have more than 800 Apprenticeship vacancies that we are recruiting for across the country and more than 1,200 young people who have been interviewed by our Academy staff and are ‘job ready’.

The 300 people who work for 3aaa will continue to get up every morning to deliver the 100+ life changing opportunities that we are generating on a weekly basis – we’ll also keep lobbying government to ensure that an Apprenticeship is really about job creation and the delivery of outstanding teaching learning and assessment and that the finite pot of government funding is not spent on training that employers should be paying for themselves.

You’ll now find a 3aaa Academy in Bedford, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Croydon, Derby, Gloucester, Guildford, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Maidstone, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Northampton, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Peterborough, Reading, Romford, Sheffield, Southampton, Swindon, Tamworth, Warwick, Watford, Worcester and York.

3aaa Staff Photo Bristol Post

Around a year ago, the 3aaa team at Bristol opened their doors to employers and young people in the region as they looked to offer life changing opportunities to young people as well as helping local businesses to form the pipeline of their talented future workforce.

So far, the academy has excelled tremendously over the past year or so, with a range of success stories culminating in the Academy being awarded the Training Provider of the Year award at the Bristol and Bath Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony.

During the first couple of days, our first talented applicant walked through the doors looking to start a career in IT. Mitchell Williams was a quiet, fresh faced young man who the team has since witnessed develop into a core member of the QTAC Payroll Solutions Technical Support Team, whilst also completing his qualification within the Bristol academy.

‘My vision is now a reality’ – Lewis Whittick– Level 3 IT Apprentice

Chelmsford Case Study

Ever dreamed of starting your very own career venture? Lewis Whittick, a Level 3 IT Apprentice from Chelmsford, has done just that and made his ambition clear from the outset. His flair for design and his entrepreneurial drive has led to him launching his own design and photography venture, Arte Magazine.

Lewis, who is 19 and working as a web designer in the Essex based IT company Ahead4, has thrived within his new role while also following his own initiatives outside of work hours by creating Arte Magazine. He commented “3aaa have opened doors for me which weren’t a possibility before. I had been trying to get into the design industry for a long time, but was met with a lot of rejection. After meeting with Luke, he took the time to really get to know me and understand my passion and ambition. I have been placed with a great employer who also supports me in pursuing my own project, Arte Magazine.

Over the past year we have been researching artists and designers that we think would be suitable for Arte content and have now got a list of over 100 people and projects that we would love to feature. The magazine, which celebrates minimalist photography and design, gives credit to these amazing artists who may not get the recognition they deserve. I can’t thank 3aaa enough for giving me this opportunity, my vision is now a reality”.

After beginning a sports Apprenticeship with a separate provider, it became apparent to Lewis that his passion lay with design and photography, a passion that the 3aaa team wanted to nurture.
After meeting with an advisor from 3aaa, Lewis was quickly paired with Ahead4, a local IT computing shop based in Wickford, Essex. During his time with his employer and the 3aaa academy, Lewis’ talents continued to grow and thrive. So much so that he is now launching his very own publication, with the help of his friend and business partner Adam Tyson.

When Lewis met with Luke Culling, apprentice intake for Chelmsford, he described how disheartened he had been applying for numerous design jobs but hearing nothing back. Luke dedicated much of his time and efforts to pairing Lewis with the perfect employer who would nurture his creative integrity.

Lewis was placed with his employer quickly after his first interview, and since then his talent for web design has excelled. In his first few months he has made a tremendous impression on the company, while also finding time after work and his studies to create Arte magazine.

Luke Culling, 3aaa Chelmsford’s lead Apprentice representative, could not be more pleased with how much Lewis has progressed within such a short space of time. He had this to say, “This is why I do the job that I do, to help ambitious young people like Lewis achieve great things. He has managed to create something really special off his own back and we expect more great things are just around the corner. Lewis is still looking for as much support as possible for Arte magazine, and we could not be happier to help”.

John Peach, who was appointed Peterborough’s new mayor on Wednesday 20th May, officially marked the opening the new Academy on Monday by cutting the ribbon said, “It is a great honour to officially open this new facility for 3aaa, a very interesting and go-ahead scheme for the city. We have great links within Peterborough and great road links to major cities, making Peterborough a fantastic opportunity. The academy is situated directly within the heart of Peterborough and it is marvelous to hear already what is happening at the facility and we are more than pleased to play our part in helping this important business grow.”

Charlotte Wood, Peterborough’s Academy manager, was elated to gain support from the Mayor. She commented “We were really pleased to hear that the mayor had accepted our formal invitation, it was really important to us to gain support from a local figure who we admire who also supports the “outstanding” work we do. Also in attendance was BBC Young Apprentice winner and 3aaa Ambassador, Ashleigh Porter-Exley who also gave an inspirational speech and insight into her own success as a young entrepreneur.

Andy Palmer, Managing Director of 3aaa said “This academy is one of 31 academies throughout England, a number that will rise to 35 by the end of July and 41 by the start of 2016. We are about life changing opportunities and we have 300 people at 3aaa who wake up every day and who are dedicated to giving young people that opportunity. We deliver outstanding world-class teaching, learning and assessing and that is shown through the rewarding of the Grade 1 Outstanding by Ofsted last year.
