Derbyshire Apprenticeship Graduation 2015 – The Roundhouse

IMG_0375

On Thursday 28th May, 3aaa collaborated with a range of Derbyshire’s local education providers, training providers, businesses and local authorities to celebrate the achievements of Apprentices across the county.

The Derbyshire Apprenticeship Graduation, which was hosted by The Roundhouse in Derby proved to be an excellent day with over 100 Apprentices receiving their graduation certificates in front of their proud families and friends. Several 3aaa Apprentices were also involved in the ceremony as a celebration of all of their hard work and achievements.

We were joined at the event by a range of different providers such as Derby College, Chesterfield College, East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire), Derby City Council, Derbyshire County Council, The Derbyshire Network, EMFEC, University of Derby and D2N2 LEP.

Alongside all of the above sponsors, local businesses came together with local figureheads in the community to celebrate not only the Apprentices who were graduating but also the Apprenticeship scheme as a whole and the impact that it has on Derbyshire and the county’s thriving industries.

At the start of the day, 3aaa were present at the event’s ‘Provider Market’ and spoke to local businesses and organisations about what we do and how we offer life changing opportunities to young people as well as helping to transform businesses. During this part of the day, guest speakers included Peter Richardson (Chairman of D2N2 LEP), Michael Nicol (Head of Employer and Delivery Services at the SFA) as well as local SME business owner James Blick (MD at the Finesse Collection). All of the guest speakers spoke fondly about the effect that young Apprentices have in helping to progress and transform a range of different businesses.

Then came the ceremony itself where the Apprentices were invited up to the stage one by one to receive their certificate in front of families and other guests.

Peter Richardson, Chairman of the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership said “The Apprentices who graduated yesterday are a celebration of what Employers and training providers can accomplish together, when working with engaged, passionate young people”.

Rob Collins, Marketing Executive for 3aaa said “The graduation was an excellent day for everyone involved. It was great to see a range of different providers, businesses and organisations come together to celebrate Apprenticeships and to see how passionate they are about them and the life changing opportunities that they bring. We were also proud to see some of our own Apprentices graduate in which was the very first Apprenticeship Graduation for Derbyshire”.

Congratulations to all of the Apprentices involved! More pictures will follow in the next couple of days.

Reading Apprentices play in Reading FC’s Royals Cup

20150524_094348

This bank holiday Sunday saw our Reading Academy take part in the Royals Cup, Berkshire’s premier corporate six-a-side football tournament.

The tournament, which is held at the Madejski Stadium, is an annual event which allows companies to enter their own chosen teams in order to win the Royals cup trophy. Companies such as Audi, Quintiles and DHL all took part in the competition as a way of increasing some brand awareness, networking with other companies who are in partnership with Reading FC, and also to participate in a fun company day out.

The day began with a big group breakfast in one of the Reading FC conference halls, to give the teams a chance to chat to each other before the tournament began. After the initial meet up the tournament began, with our Apprentices taking part in 5 matches. Sadly our team didn’t make it to the final, but it was a great opportunity to make new connections and a great chance for our Apprentices to walk out and play on the Reading pitch.

The Reading team was led by Academy Recruitment Executive Tanveer Bhatti. He had this to say, “It was definitely a fun worthwhile event. We had a good opportunity to network with other businesses, while also getting the opportunity to play on the Reading FC pitch. For any football fan it’s an amazing chance to play on a professional pitch.

“There was something for everyone, a fun day out for the whole family. We’d love to take part next year!”

Congratulations for doing so well Reading, let’s hope we get a victory next time around!

3aaa to use the power of sport to help change young people’s lives

13aaaStumps

At 3aaa, we are continuing to use the power of sport to encourage businesses across Derbyshire to take on a young Apprentice and be part of something special in Derby.

For every business in Derbyshire that recruits a 16 to 18-year-old IT or Digital Marketing Apprentice in May or June through 3aaa, the company will pledge £500 to Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s #WereBackingTheBid campaign for Derby to become a host city at the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The ambitious plan for the City will be symbolised by a landmark set of giant cricket stumps to be located at the gateway to the City on the Pentagon Roundabout. The stumps will be funded by a total of 100 local companies who will each pledge £500.

The businesses who take on a 3aaa apprentice will join over 30 local companies, including 3aaa, who are already backing the bid and will be involved in the development, unveiling and publicity surrounding the sculpture, as well as featuring on the a Partners Plaque.

Apprenticeships given seal of Approval by Employers in a recent survey

IMG_6625 (3)

A recent survey of 555 employers by Redshift Research has endorsed the Apprenticeship scheme in England and highlighted the benefits that employers are seeing on a daily basis as they look to take their businesses forward.

Feedback stated that ‘Apprenticeships can improve employee loyalty to a company as well as increase business opportunities – so reckons the government, which has rolled out nine industry-designed degree apprenticeships to bring together the best of higher and vocational education’. Employers around the country are increasingly seeing the value of hiring Apprentices as the young people become pivotal to forming the pipeline of their future talent and allowing them to mould their workforce exactly how they like.

The report also discussed the loyalty that Apprentices offer a business as 56 per cent of those surveyed say that their Apprentices stay longer than other recruits in the business. Within this group, 59 per cent say that this is due to the training that is provided and more than half believe that it is down to the Apprentices having the ability to learn and grow in the business from the bottom up.

Many employers also commended the fact that taking on Apprentices marks their business out from the crowd, with a third saying that by taking on Apprentices they have been able to differentiate themselves from their competitors.

Now is the time to recruit an Apprentice and provide your business with an innovative edge whilst setting the foundations for your future workforce.

Our Apprenticeship Journeys so far – Josh Hill and Bradley Renwick – Computacenter

Computacenter

As part of our ongoing partnership with Computacenter, IT Apprentices Josh Hill and Bradley Renwick have given their thoughts on their journeys so far:

‘We started with Computacenter on the 17th November which seems  a very long time ago now! On our first day we went to the Manchester branch, getting collected from home at 06:30 in the morning. We were quite nervous as we didn’t know what to expect at all and were also worried that we might have to go to Manchester every single day.

At the end of of the first day we were a little overwhelmed as it had been complete information overload all day, there was a lot of paperwork to fill in as well as online inductions to complete. It was good to meet the management team so that we knew all of the faces if they came to see us in the future and we were feeling much more comfortable about things by the end of the day. By the time we got home, we were exhausted due to the early start, lots of listening and not a lot of sleep the night before!

Over the next few days we carried on with our induction and got to understand more about what would be expected of us and what the role of a customer engineer was. We got the chance to meet some of the engineers and get an overview of the different customers and services that Computacenter deliver in the North region. There was still an awful lot of information to take in!

Now that we have been in our placements for a little while, we are starting to understand much more about what an engineer does and also becoming more confident when meeting new people and visiting customers. We didn’t think we would meet as many new people as we have done and going to Hatfield recently has opened our eyes even more about how big Computacenter is and the opportunities there are.

Our 3 things that we have most enjoyed so far are; Learning the technical aspect of the role, meeting the other engineers and some of the office ‘banter’ that goes with this and lastly it’s been really good to get a new perspective on working life in a full time role.

Working with experienced engineers has been very helpful towards building up our knowledge and confidence in dealing with customer calls. It is a completely different customer environment compared to our previous jobs but we feel like we have coped with this change very well and we are both looking forward to the upcoming months with Computacenter.’
