Girls in ICT day – Bucking the trend

sdaf

To celebrate Girls in ICT Day, an interactive 3D printing workshop was held by one of the biggest groups in the mobile phone industry to encourage 13-year-old girls from one of London’s most deprived communities to get into computing and coding.

The GSM Association (GSMA) invited a class of Year 8 students from the Bridge Academy in east London to attend a workshop at the digital fabrication and prototyping workspace FabLab London, where women working in technology told them about their jobs in order to encourage girls to see computing as fun and worth pursuing.

Toni Watson, our Apprentice Intake Executive from the Kings Cross Academy and 3aaa IT Apprentice, Karen Gaskell from Watford attended the GSMA offices near Bank in London for the event.

They were joined by a group of thirteen year old girls and their teachers, as well as some of the most inspirational women in IT. Women from companies such as Cute Circuit and Thought Works gave inspirational talks on what they do and the impact that their companies have made on the world today. The group were inspired by the products and ideas on show and the impact that they could potentially have on young women in the IT industry in the future.

Karen then inspired the young ladies from the school when she gave her speech on what she does for her company Wire Box within her apprenticeship. She explained that she hasn’t always wanted to do IT, she actually wanted to be a private investigator as a young child. It wasn’t until she started using technology properly and gained an understanding of the elements in sixth form that she knew that this is the career that she wanted to do. She explained her tasks as ‘pretty cool’ and kept it in a language that the audience understood.

Toni Watson said “I was proud when Karen started explaining that not everyone has to go to university to be successful, in fact, your happiness is more important than going into university and not enjoying what you are doing day in, day out for years of your life. She mentioned that as soon as you start applying within the industry with a years’ experience under your belt, employers are excited to see that there is a passion and knowledge for the industry as well as a qualification and experience. That is a massive commitment and one that our apprentices make daily on the route to changing their lives”.

Karen made a lasting impression on the girls and their teachers as well as the employers from the various companies that she and Toni met.

Digital Marketing Apprentice Stars In Comedy Coffee Campaign

Pic

One of Maidstone’s brightest digital marketing apprentices, Daniel Battam – Scott, has featured in a new advertising campaign for his employer, Cohesion Marketing by Design.

Daniel began his journey with 3aaa back in January, where Maidstone’s academy manager Juliet Shand, recognised his immeasurable potential. Within a very short period of time he had been reviewed, interviewed and offered a job with a thriving creative marketing and design agency in Kent.

The advertisement, which features on the company’s YouTube channel, shows Dan and his colleagues participating in a comedic tutorial on how to make the perfect cup of coffee, with limited office resources. Not only is it entertaining and light hearted, but it is also an innovative marketing tool to increase brand awareness and enforce their brand identity as a young and creative marketing company. Instances such as these show just how 3aaa apprenticeships can bring life changing opportunities to ambitious young people across the country.

Daniel’s confidence is evident throughout the entire video, and his flair for digital marketing will make him a force to be reckoned with. 3aaa would like to say good luck in the future Dan, Cohesion marketing have bagged themselves a very talented team member.

Bushey Meads student carries out two day work experience at the 3aaa Watford Academy

Bushey Meads

Earlier this month, Malia Petrela, a student from Bushey Meads School in Hertfordshire, completed a two day work experience at the 3aaa Watford Academy.

Our Watford Academy have had a very close and fruitful relationship with Bushey Meads School ever since our opening. The team has supported Bushey Meads with a range of different things such as interview technique days and Apprenticeship work shop days and in return Bushey Meads have actively promoted 3aaa Apprenticeships and the life changing opportunities that they provide.

As part of this fantastic relationship, we invited Malia to complete a two day work experience at 3aaa and introduced her to the world of our outstanding Apprenticeships at the Watford Academy.

Malia completed a range of different tasks such answering Apprentice enquiries, putting together enrolment packs, looking at Accountancy roles within 3aaa and observing Accountancy sessions.

At the end of the two days, all parties were delighted with the outcome and this opportunity gave Malia some valuable work experience and an insight into how a real life business works.

Victoria Walker, Regional Apprentice Intake Executive for the South commented: “Malia was a fantastic member of the team and took on board everything that we said. She completed all of the tasks to a high standard and was a pleasure to have in the office.”

Beverly Biggerstaff, Assistant to Head of Work Related Learning at Bushey Meads was equally as pleased. “Malia thoroughly enjoyed her two days with 3aaa and said she was made to feel very welcome and ‘part of the team’.  She also found the experience very worthwhile as it gave her an insight into the world of work. Once again thank you to 3aaa for supporting Malia.”

This form of work experience is a real opportunity for young people to gain valuable employment skills, knowledge and experience in a fast paced business environment and 3aaa could offer this to your organisation. Contact is to find out more…

DERBY apprentice training company 3aaa (Aspire Achieve Advance) have extended their partnership with Derbyshire CCC.

The deal, worth more than £500,000 over five years, includes the extension of the stadium naming rights of the 3aaa County Ground until the end of 2020.

The partnership will also see the newly-redeveloped pavilion renamed as the 3aaa Pavilion and the company’s name on the club’s NatWest t20 Blast shirt through to 2018.

In March 2014, 3aaa become the club’s first ever ground naming rights partner.
“We are delighted to extend our partnership with Derbyshire and proud to be supporting our local county cricket club,” said 3aaa director Peter Marples.

“The partnership will allow us to continue to raise our profile and strengthen our brand awareness through local and national media and corporate clients taking advantage of the new state-of-the-art facilities on offer at the 3aaa Pavilion.

“The club’s 1870 Business Club has provided us with a forum for connecting potential apprentice employers and, as a Derbyshire-based business, we are keen to continue to contribute to businesses at the heart of the local community.”

Derbyshire chief executive Simon Storey added: “We want to build on the exciting progress of the last 12 months with 3aaa which has brought great benefits for both parties.

“We are proud to be so closely associated with an organisation in the same year OFSTED recognised them as the only independent training provider to achieve Grade One Outstanding.

“We’ve had a great experience with our own 3aaa apprentices who have been able to step straight into their respective roles.

“We are looking forward to continuing our partnership which will provide the club with long-term security as we seek to build a successful team that the county of Derbyshire can be proud of.”
