David Cameron commits to reducing benefits to support up to 3 million Apprenticeships

Apprenticeship Group 3

Earlier today, David Cameron committed to reducing benefits to support up to 3 million Apprenticeships in England if the Conservative party are successful in the upcoming General Election.

This commitment shows the support to an ever growing number of Apprenticeships in England as Employers around the country continue to realise the benefits that Apprenticeships have on their businesses and how they are integral to providing the pipeline of their future talent.

As the largest Apprenticeship provider in the country, we are dedicated to making sure as many young people benefit from these life changing opportunities as possible through our network of 32 Academies. More young people than ever are now seeing the benefits of an Apprenticeship as they look to start the career of their dreams and ‘earn while they learn’ within the sector that they are passionate about.

At 3aaa we understand that this figure will only be achieved if young people are motivated to follow a vocational career rather than following the traditional academic route and our passionate teams will continue to do that around the country.

Our partnering Employers know that Apprenticeships are a great route into employment and help give their employees real life workplace skills as well as the technical knowledge, ensuring that they are fully prepared to step straight into the working environment. In our recent Grade 1 Outstanding report, Ofsted commented “The Apprentices occupy key roles and become pivotal to their businesses very quickly”.

2015 is well and truly the year to become part of the Apprenticeship scheme in England…

Expansion and Reflections on a busy January

giant

As we conclude January 2015, the pace of growth at 3aaa and the achievements in creating life changing opportunities for young people goes unabated.

We have now opened our 32nd centre at Norwich this week with 6 more opening between now and July, giving us a total of 38 centres

We have also now introduced TRAINEESHIPS as a new offer in a number of our centres and this will create 300 opportunities before now and July for young people looking to get into an Apprenticeship, but need just that little additional support.

January has also seen our biggest ever recruitment month. We will have placed over 360 People into sustainable jobs with robust Apprenticeship training this month, that is averaging over 80 people into jobs each and every week. That number will be increasing over the months and years ahead.

In our power of sport, we have recently completed a deal with Reading FC and there will be further announcements to extend our relationships with Derby County, Rotherham FC and Derbyshire Cricket over the next week – watch this space !

Finally for January, we were visited by the Skills Minister, Nick Boles who complemented us on our provision. Totally unexpectedly, he gave evidence to the Education Select Committee last Wednesday and the extract from Hansard is as follows:

“Entirely coincidentally, on Monday I was with Richard Harrington inWatford at one of the best apprenticeship providers in the country, a firm called 3aaa. Itfocuses on IT, accounting and digital apprenticeships, and deals only with 16 to 18-year-olds.

It is outstanding on every measure. It is the first apprenticeship provider to be rated outstanding on every measure at its first inspection by Ofsted. It is actually finding huge demand from employers, almost all of them small and medium-sized businesses, so it is possible to sell an employer quite a long and rigorous programme by showing that, nevertheless, this person will add value to their business.

The firm is demonstrating that across the country; it is in Watford and lots of other places, too. This is possible and it is experiencing a lot of growth. We need to learn from such companies how to expand the scheme.”

That really does summarise our January. I am sure February will be even more exciting and we will remain RELENTLESS in our pursuit of excellence in everything we do

We are delighted to announce that 3aaa are now the new official sponsor of Reading Football Club Hospitality.

The partnership will see us work closely with Reading Football Club on match days and on special events within the hospitality suites. It will also give a number of 3aaa Apprentices the chance to start their dream career at the Madjeski Stadium and understand the impact that their skills have on the day to day running of a football club.

This partnership also strengthens our vision of using the ‘Power of Sport’ to inspire young people as they set out on their career pathways. The message of commitment and nurturing that sport delivers mirrors our own approach to the young people.

3aaa Co-Director Peter Marples said: “It was great to come down to Madejski Stadium and meet with Sir John. We already work with some of the country’s top employers and it is exciting to link up with a club that clearly shares our passion for the development of young people.”

Royals Co-Chairman Sir John Madejski added: “The John Madejski Academy has given me a great insight into the importance of giving young people platforms on which to build their lives and careers. This is yet another exciting partnership for the club and I have no doubt how rewarding it will be for all involved.”

‘The help you need to kickstart your career’ – Tom Suttill – Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprentice

‘The help you need to kickstart your career’ – Tom Suttill – Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprentice

Do you need help to give you the confidence to kick-start a career in an ever evolving sector? Tom Suttill, a Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprentice from Leeds gained valuable advice and has now turned his passion into a career!

Tom commented: “3aaa have been fantastic throughout my interview and preparation for potential employers. I have attended a presentation they set up on interview techniques which I found very useful ahead of my employer interview. The staff at 3aaa are very helpful and determined!”

After deciding that A-Levels weren’t for him and wanting to learn in a practical environment, Tom decided to try the Apprenticeship route. He had attended numerous Apprenticeship interviews but had unfortunately been unsuccessful due to the fact that he had felt unsupported and unprepared for interviews by previous providers.

When Tom came for his first interview with 3aaa he was very quiet, shy and identified interviews as a particular weakness but his passion for IT and Digital Marketing still came across strongly in his interview. He had identified Digital Marketing as a growing industry that he could thrive in and that he would love the opportunity to earn and learn at the same time.

The team at our 3aaa Leeds Academy did a lot of work with Tom on a one to one basis to build up his confidence for interviews by setting up presentations and mock interviews where he could put his skills to the test.

After attending an interview with a local company, Tom found himself successful in getting a pivotal role in their company and is now looking forward to a new start with his new found confidence.

Matt Dickinson, Apprentice Intake at Leeds Academy said: “Tom has transformed from a quiet individual, low on confidence, who struggled at interview into an Apprentice who I think has all of the tools to become an outstanding ambassador for 3aaa. In the short time he has been with us, he has shown a great deal of determination and a fantastic can-do attitude.”

3aaa Nottingham Apprentices treated to Nottingham Forest FC visit

20150109_120756

On Friday 9th January, a group of IT Apprentices from our Nottingham were treated to a tour of Nottingham Forest Football Club as they celebrated their final day of learning within the Academy.

The Apprentices were presented to and given an insight into how important IT, Social Media and Digital Marketing are to the running of the football club as a whole on a daily basis. Between the two of them,  IT Manager, Steve Dickman and Multimedia Editor, Matthew Roulstone showed the Apprentices ‘A day in the life’ of the IT and Multimedia at Nottingham Forest Football Club.

Firstly, IT Manager Steve Dickman discussed how important IT is to the running of the football club both on match days and in preparation for match days. He then showed the Apprentices some of the tasks that he completes and discussed them in more detail. Steve was himself an Apprentice at the start of his career and has now progressed to play a pivotal role at the football club, citing his Apprenticeship as the main reason behind that. He told the Apprentices “The world is your oyster with an IT Apprenticeship as every business requires IT support. The ability to learn and keep current is integral to your progression”.

Secondly Multimedia Editor, Matthew Roulstone spoke about how important his role was to the running of the club and also commercially. Matthew is in charge of all of Nottingham Forest’s Social Media platforms as well as their website and video content both on a match day and in the week. Within the presentation, he stressed just how important to IT and Digital Marketing department were from a commercial point of view. “Part of my role is to get constant messages out to the supporters on Social Media and our website. This is integral to driving ticket sales for the matches as that piece of information on Twitter could be the reason why a supporter buys a ticket for the next match”. Matthew also attends all matches and provides kick by kick commentary to followers on Twitter.

Finally, the Apprentices were given an insight into how their IT skills could help the coaches and actually have an impact on the pitch as well as off it. The fascinated Apprentices were shown how they can use their skills to take clips from matches and training and add them to an easy to watch file that could be handed over to coaches, which the coaches could then present to players to show them tactics and help them improve.

The insightful day was finished off with a tour around the stadium and all of the 3aaa staff and Apprentices were really impressed and inspired with everything that they had learnt. Nottingham Academy Manager Jim Horne said “The IT team at Nottingham Forest showed us all that every business needs IT support and hit home just how important it is. On top of this, they showed us how they use Social Media and Digital Marketing at the forefront of their business to drive income. At 3aaa we aim to use the ‘power of sport’ to inspire our Apprentices as many young people are motivated by the sporting environment and their sporting heroes and today has shown them the impact they could have if they choose to work within this industry. Thank you to the team at Nottingham Forest for an excellent day”.

Apprenticeships Minister Nick Boles visits 3aaa Watford Academy

DSC_0288

On Monday 12th January, we had two very special visitors to our Watford Academy. Apprenticeships Minister Nick Boles MP joined local MP Richard Harrington to showcase the ‘outstanding’ local opportunities available to the young people of Watford, and called for more businesses to take on an Apprentice ahead of National Apprenticeship Week 2015.

Richard Harrington is no stranger to our Watford Academy having previously visited in December 2014. He was impressed by the personal touch we have as a training provider and expressed a fondness of how we go about our work with both Apprentices and Employers.

During the visit on Monday, both Nick and Richard were taken on a tour of the Academy and then observed one of the employability sessions that was taking place with the applicants and an Employer. Deborah Cridford from local company Swagelok offered the Apprentices advice about CVs, interviews and personal profiles and spoke about why she would take on an Apprentice over a graduate.

Nick Boles MP commented “Almost 2 million people have taken up an Apprenticeship over this Parliament, and I’ve met two more today. We must continue to grow this though and it’s clear that in Watford, where almost 3000 Apprenticeships have been created since 2010, this is happening and there are great opportunities. Richard asked me to come here today to support his call for more businesses to consider taking on an Apprentice this year, and we’ve heard first hand just how beneficial it can be for employers to do just that”.

Richard Harrington MP added to this: “We’ve seen a serious overhaul of Apprenticeships over the past five years, they are now available in over 170 industries. Everything from financial services to engineering and mechanics, Apprenticeships are really respected by employers. The biggest champions of Apprenticeships that I meet are the employers who have already benefited so much from employing an Apprentice, so I would encourage anyone who hasn’t yet to consider doing just that”.

Throughout the day, Nick and Richard were introduced to the staff at our Watford Academy and also spoke to some of our Apprentices about their experience so far and how they have benefited from their Apprenticeship.

Julie Watts, 3aaa Watford Academy Manager said “It is great that 3aaa is being recognised at government level as an organisation that are passionate about creating life changing opportunities.  Richard Harrington has been opening doors for us in the local community and we look forward to working closely with Nick Boles in the future”.

Andy Palmer, 3aaa Managing Director added “It was a real honour for us to be able to welcome the Minister, Nick Boles, to the Watford Academy and he was obviously impressed with what we saw and heard from our Apprentices, our Employers and the 3aaa team. With so much discussion about Apprenticeships being dominated by large employers it was super for him to be able to hear from Apprentices working in small companies and their employers.  He left with the very clear message that we are delivering life changing opportunities for many thousands of young people, we are delivering an outstanding Apprenticeship experience and we are delivering bang in line with the priorities that government have for Apprenticeships.”

You’ll now find a 3aaa Academy in Bedford, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Croydon, Derby, Guildford, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Maidstone, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Northampton, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Peterborough, Reading, Sheffield, Southampton, Tamworth, Warwick, Watford and Worcester.

3aaa officially open brand new Academy in Cambridge

caad

On Wednesday 6th January, we officially opened a brand new Academy in the heart of Cambridge.

Within the Cambridge Academy we are currently delivering Apprenticeships in Technology and Digital Marketing into industries which are constantly demanding young, passionate people to help bring new ideas into the workplace and help transform businesses in the Cambridge area.

The official opening of the Academy proved to be a great success and was supported by local MP Julian Huppert who was most impressed with the academy, our Apprentices and Employers. Julian received positive feedback from all parties and really enjoyed the debate regarding why apprenticeships are so important and how we engage with both our Apprentices and Employers.

Local MP Julian Huppert commented “I feel that the academy is an outstanding facility that can enhance the skills and knowledge of the Apprentices and become very worthwhile as a training support resource for Employers to grasp and make full use of, boosting the local economy in a range of different ways”.

John Dutton, the Managing Director of local company, Synermetric was equally as impressed. “The personal contact I have with 3aaa is absolutely outstanding. They manage resources for me as well as screening applicants so that I am not wasting time interviewing the wrong candidates. Their continued support throughout the process is the reason why I feel this is such an excellent company to work with.”

As well as local Employers, our current Apprentices were also invited to celebrate the opening of the new Academy and to discuss their Apprenticeship experiences so far. Abigail Heaton, a Digital Marketing Apprentice at the Cambridge Academy said “I originally wanted to go to University but was concerned about the debt I may get into. I did think about Apprenticeships but I was unsure as I didn’t fully understand the benefits. After meeting with 3aaa and discussing potential opportunities, I soon realised that they could actually facilitate my dream and that I had an excellent chance to earn and learn at the same time. Within 2 weeks I had a job at a wonderful company in which I adore and know that I can also progress to the next level as an Apprentice and gain a degree level qualification”.

jyggy

As a company, we are delighted to have opened an Academy in Cambridge as we look to spread our life changing opportunities across England. Andy Palmer, Managing Director of 3aaa said “The opening of 3aaa’s Cambridge Academy, in the heart of the city, really strengthens our presence in the East of England.  It means that many of the really innovative companies that have grown up around Cambridge will be able to choose to take on Apprentices supported by a Grade 1, Outstanding, Ofsted provider and the largest provider of Professional Services Apprenticeships in the country.  Cambridge is renowned for the quality of its Education provision and we’re delighted to be part of the education and training landscape in the area offering outstanding vocational opportunities to some of the brightest and most motivated young people in the area”.

Our Academy Manager, Harry Baird also spoke with Julian Clover on the Cambridge 105 Drive radio station later that evening. You can hear the podcast in full by clicking on the following link.
