‘3aaa – Helping young people realise their potential’ – Christian Van Den Berg – Level 3 IT Apprentice

apprentice and teacher at PC

Confused about what career path you want to take? In need of guidance and direction to help you realise your potential? You are not alone.

Christian Van Den Berg, now a Level 3 IT Apprentice at the 3aaa Milton Keynes Academy suffered from a very common fear within young people today; he knew his interests and passions but wasn’t sure how to make a career from them.

Christian said “Before I started my Apprenticeship with 3aaa, I was very confused about what I wanted to do and was in need of some guidance and direction. I knew I enjoyed IT but wasn’t aware of any jobs or careers that I could have within IT. I became worried that I would lose out on jobs to other young people that had a clear idea of what they wanted to do. After receiving the support and direction of the 3aaa team at Milton Keynes, I realised what I was good at and how I could turn it into a career and my confidence grew massively”.

Equipped with his new found confidence, Christian was then invited for an interview at Installation Specialist Ltd in Milton Keynes as part of the IT Support team. During the interview, Christian wowed Installation Specialist Ltd with his attitude and willingness to learn and was given the opportunity to continue his Apprenticeship journey within the company.

Rebecca Brooks, 3aaa Recruitment Executive from Milton Keynes said “Christian lacked confidence when he joined 3aaa and this came from not having any direction. He overcame this by researching, revising and working hard and as a result found out what he would be good at. His hard work was quickly recognised by his employer.”

Chris Crowley, Manager of Installation Specialists Ltd said “Finding an apprentice through 3aaa was highly successful for us.  The whole recruitment process was a very positive experience, especially given the assistance of Rebecca who was extremely helpful throughout.  Our apprentice, Christian, has by far exceeded our expectations and we would not hesitate to recruit future apprentices through 3aaa should the opportunity arise again”.

We’ve now welcomed Jake to the family, and are all very eager to see where this novel addition of skills and understanding will take us”

Case Study – Chill Factor Refrigeration – Nottingham

social media 2

Unsure about how an Apprentice can help transform your business? Chill Factor Refrigeration in Nottingham saw the demand for a Social Media Apprentice within their company in an ever evolving business environment. Luke, a Level 3 Social Media Apprentice from the 3aaa Nottingham Academy proved to be the perfect fit.

Darren Goose, Managing Director of Chill Factor Refrigeration in Nottingham:

We took Luke on as a Social Media and Digital Marketing Apprentice back in March 2014 and at first we weren’t quite sure of how he and the Apprenticeship could benefit our business.

Using the skills and knowledge he had already learnt at the 3aaa Nottingham Academy with his tutor Andy Hughes, as well as working with me to develop the digital marketing plan for the business, Luke spent time setting up Chill Factor on the social media sites that he deemed to be the most suitable. Once we were all set up with polished profiles and a well thought out plan of approach for the new business venture, we began to get noticed and started building up a strong following.

It didn’t take long for us to get noticed by the right people and we were soon approached by our very first customer from social media. COOK, West Bridgford had contacted us to discuss maintenance contracts covering their many on- site freezers and we were more than happy to provide them with a quote. We felt as if we had hit the jackpot when COOK later contacted us to say they were happy with the quote and wished to proceed with the maintenance contract.

Whilst Luke was setting us up on social media, he was also teaching me about the benefits of it and how to get to grips with the interfaces. With Luke’s knowledge and help it didn’t take long for me to become comfortable using the social platforms with my own personal accounts. As an ambitious business owner, I then set about developing my own social media presence and before long I was approached by a likeminded businessman at Belle & Jerome who were looking for someone to take over from their previous Refrigeration & Air Conditioning repair company. After having a meeting and assessing their equipment at both the Beeston and West Brigdford shops, we set out to prove ourselves to Belle & Jerome, providing a swift and quality service. We now share a healthy working relationship with them to date.

Our most recent success comes from EverSo Catering Ltd, who contacted us through Twitter to perform a service on their walk in chiller. After completing the job they asked us to quote to install a new walk in chiller, to move a walk in chiller, install a new walk in freezer and quote for a maintenance contract covering all of their equipment. A truly wholesome result that we are extremely happy about thanks to Social Media.

That’s three long lasting customers for Chill Factor in the space of only 3 months from when Luke started. We are more than clear on the benefits of the Social Media & Digital Marketing Apprenticeship and we look forward to seeing what else it can bring us in the future!”

‘Overcoming barriers to fulfil your dreams’ – Emily Sian Donoghue – Level 3 IT Apprentice

Emily Sian

Many young people in our society have problems such as lack of confidence, immaturity and lack of motivation as they embark on their career journey.

Emily Sian Donoghue, an IT Apprentice from the Derby Academy had a completely different set of barriers to overcome as she started the career of her dreams with an IT Apprenticeship at 3aaa. Before starting her Apprentice journey, Emily suffered from an extreme form of Epilepsy and was having over 60 seizures a day.

Determined not to let this condition get her down and ruin her dreams, Emily gained the support of the team at the 3aaa Derby Academy and had her Epilepsy story published by CURE. CURE are a large organization in the USA who raise funds to research Epilepsy cures.

After Emily’s story was published with CURE, she decided to make a blog called the purple train to raise further awareness about her condition. Emily said “I wanted to bring people together to help people suffering from neurological conditions feel less alone. This was published on CURE and I am now part of the CURE foundation to help raise funds and awareness. My dream is to make a difference”.

Alongside her work with CURE, Emily is also completing her Level 3 IT Apprenticeship with both the 3aaa Derby Academy and her employer; Frenger Systems of Pride Park in Derby. With the support of both the Academy and her employer, this is a challenge that Emily has grabbed with two hands. “I have overcome a lot over the last year. I have gone from having over 60 seizures a day to none and I have come a long way”.

Emily has a unique, inspiring philosophy on life as she continues her Apprenticeship journey and beyond. “Never give up and don’t ask why, because every situation does not need an answer. I’m a firm believer that I don’t worry about anything that I can’t control”

Stephen Wyer, 3aaa Learner Recruitment Executive for the Nottingham Academy said “The day was centred around Barrett Housing and David Wilson Homes. There is a lot going on in and around Cotgrave and developers organised a day to explain future plans, and talk about opportunities with the construction sector that potential Apprentices could benefit from. Stephen had the ideal opportunity to meet some of the local community leaders and talk about the 3aaa values and how 3aaa can offer opportunities in South Nottingham.
