It is one of the biggest honours that can be bestowed on any citizen – an entry in Who’s Who, the ‘Bible’ of Britain’s achievers and notable citizens. This year, there are seven new entries with Derbyshire links, reports Sarah North.
SEVEN Derby people are among the 1,000 new entries in the newly published 2014 edition of Who’s Who.
Inclusion in the book – which contains potted biographies of 33,000 of Britain’s most famous, most talented and most influential people – is by invitation only, so this is an accolade for all the newcomers. The seven are:
ANDREW PALMER, 37
Mr Palmer is managing director of Aspire Achieve Advance Ltd, based in Sitwell Street, Derby, one of the leading national training providers in England for apprenticeships.
Mr Palmer spoke of his pride at being included in Who’s Who, which he said was something of a family ambition.
He said: “It’s an honour to be included and incredibly satisfying. Who’s Who is something that I have been familiar with ever since I was growing up. I remember my grandfather used to go down to the local library just to leaf through its pages.”
Mr Palmer, who has been at 3AAA since September, first got an inkling he would be included when the authors of the book sent him a letter eight months ago requesting his biography.
He said: “The letter was totally unsolicited and after I had sent off my biography I thought little more about it.”
A former director of education and skills at BT, Mr Palmer is also a non-executive board member at Ofsted.
He has been involved in the skills industry for almost all of his career.
Today, he oversees the operations of 3AAA, which specialises in the delivery of IT apprenticeships across the UK. The firm, which is jointly owned by Peter Marples and Di McEvoy-Robinson, works with some key employers in the IT sectors – including HP, Ocado and Aldi.
